Aftercare Instructions
1. Bandage and Initial Protection
Many clients leave our studio with an adhesive bandage designed to protect your tattoo from contaminants in the first few days.
-
Do not leave the bandage on for more than 5 days. It’s most beneficial within the first 24 hours.
-
If the bandage lifts, creases, or peels to meet the tattoo, remove it immediately.
-
Some clients may leave with plastic wrap instead. If your artist did not apply a covering, you can skip this section.

It’s common to see plasma, ink, or a small amount of blood collect under the bandage
When removing your adhesive bandage, do so under running water, letting the water flow between your skin and the bandage as you gently peel it away.
Do not sweat with the bandage on, trapped bacteria can cause infection.

2. Cleaning Your Tattoo
-
Always wash your hands before touching your healing tattoo.
-
Gently wash your tattoo 1–3 times per day using a mild, unscented cleanser such as CeraVe or Cetaphil. Pat dry with a clean towel or let air dry, never rub.
You may notice small black scabs flaking off; this is part of the normal healing process. Keep these scabs attached as long as possible.

3. Moisturizing
-
Apply a light layer of unscented lotion or ointment 1–3 times per day (depending on your skin’s dryness).
-
Your tattoo should be able to breathe so avoid over-applying moisturizer. If your tattoo becomes overly dry or brittle, it may flake prematurely, so maintain a balance.

4. What to Avoid
-
No lakes, rivers, beaches, pools, or hot tubs while healing, these could contain bacteria that can cause infection. Showers are fine, avoid soaking the tattoo too long
-
Do not scratch or pick your tattoo, even if it itches. Avoid friction, don't let clothing or bedding rub the area.
-
Stay out of the sun. Do not expose your healing tattoo to direct sunlight or tanning beds.
-
Avoid contaminants like dirty sheets, unwashed clothes, or pet contact with the tattooed area.

5. Special Instructions for Blackout Tattoos
If you received blackout work:
-
Sleep with plastic wrap for the first three nights, after thoroughly rubbing in your recommended ointment.
-
Follow all standard washing and moisturize 5 times a day.

Tattoos generally heal within 2–3 weeks. If you’re considering a touch-up, wait longer until your tattoo is showing its true colors. If you have any questions during the healing process, don’t hesitate to reach out to your artist or the studio. We’re here to help ensure your tattoo heals perfectly.
